Hotel Accommodation in Melbourne?

Would like to be close to lots! we want to make a trip out to luna park, but also want to do the sky deck and the aquarium at southbank…
Where is a central place to stay that is reasonably priced but also really nice?

We always stay in the Mercure Welcome hotel [not the Mercure Grand, that is more expensive]. It is in Little Bourke St and very very close to Chinatown and 50 yards [if that] from Swanston St [main street]. Very central. Not too expensive – about the cheapest you will get in Melbourne CBD. Not the most luxurious but clean and comfortable. They also have a dining room for breakfast and dinner or you can cross the laneway and get breakfast there – much cheaper.
I was there last August and the price of a twin room [no breakfast] was around $100.

I stay at the Quest on Burke. They are 1 & 2 bedroom apartments right on Burke St, one block from the mall. You can’t get any better location and they are 4.5 star apartments.

Last I looked they had 1 bedrooms for $170 a night. You can save money by making your own breakfasts, since you have a kitchen and dinner too if you like, or have take away.

The only better location but still a nice hotel is the Grand Mercure on Swanston St, but you get a small room only and it’s pricey.

    Here’s Quest’s site http://www.questonbourke.com/

Jennifer H – You’re a TC and you don’t even know there is a Luna Park in St Kilda as well as one in Sydney. Come on.

All the places you mentioned are across the yarra river, but Burke is nice and central and the trams stops are only metres away. While you’re there make sure you visit Bridge Rd in Richmond for some serious shopping, it’s all discounted factory outlets.

As long as you are in the CBD the trams take you everywhere so any hotel is fine. If you want to save money, jump on the Australian websites www.ratesToGo.com.au or www.lastminute.com.au. You can get fantastic hotel rooms (4 and 5 star) massively discounted if you are willing to book them closer to your arrival date. There are always rooms available.
