We’ll bring our 1 year old daughter with us, so we don’t want her to suffer the long drive. Is there any hotel/motel along the way? Is there any interest points in between the 2 points? When we get to the Grand Canyon, is there any nice hotel around there? Which one do you recommend?

yeah the bunny ranch
Couple ways you could go on this one. Mrs. Obviousman and I have done quite a bit of traveling with a young one in the car. The best thing we’ve found is to leave in the evening, so the child sleeps in the back seat as long as possible. You should be able to easily make it to Las Vegas, Needles, or Laughlin. My personal preference is Laughlin. We stay at the Avi Casino, which is just north of I-40. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s clean and comforable. From there, take the bridge across the Colorado River to Bullhead City, then take highway 68 to Kingman, where you can catch I-40 again. Continue east to Willaims.
In Williams, you might want to take the Railroad to the rim of the Grand Canyon, and stay at the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire hotel on the rim. Or, you can stay at the Grand Canyon RR Inn, in Williams.
Have fun!
You might consider taking Amtrak which has train service to Williams,AZ from Los Angeles with a direct rail connection from there right into the Grand Canyon, it is a reasonably priced route and fun too! If you do drive, try stopping over along the way in Laughlin,NV, a short bypass off of I-40 between Needles,CA and Kingman,AZ (no additional miles) Just take the river road cut off exit as you approach Needles and follow the signs. In Laughlin during the week the rooms are very reasonable ( I paid $22 at the Flamingo Hilton about a week ago!) Same applies to the food and fun!
“Roaddogg’s” suggestion to go by train would be a great idea if traveling with an infant. Lots of room to move around, and no need for mid trip lodging. Rent a car in Williams for the travel through the park.
If you prefer to drive, as a retired professional driver, I recommend using I-10, I-15, I-40, Az-64. It is roughly a 500 mile trip. Needles is an old railroad town, and is about mid way, and a good place to stop.
Most visitors go to the South and West Rims. There are 7 hotels inside the park. Reservations must be made well in advance, and through the parks concessionaire at 1-888-297-2757. Lodging is also available out side the park at Tusayan, Az (7miles) & Valle, Az. (30 miles). The entrance fee is currently $25.00. For more detailed information go to the website “www.nps.gov/grca”.
